We are committed to assisting firms with application and program assistance that helps to provide opportunities for underutilized businesses to participate in federally funded highway construction contracting opportunities.

Our goal is to provide training and guidance that will help firms grow and build their business management potential. To accomplish this, we have developed program trainings that can be customized to your firm’s needs. All our services are provided free of charge to certified firms. If it were not for the South Dakota Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, I am certain that I would not have had the opportunity to own & operate a construction business in South Dakota. Buskerud Construction, Inc. became a woman-owned business in 1992 with my purchase of 51% of the shares. This happened largely because my father saw an opportunity and encouraged me to consider moving back to South Dakota to purchase this business. If I had been a male, I might have been recruited to work in the construction industry when I graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1986. However, between the mindset of the industry and my own wanderlust, that did not happen. The DBE program was my opportunity. It opened doors in the industry for me. It allowed me to earn respect and be taken seriously as a woman in what is still a very male dominated industry. The program and the associated support services have been an intangible asset to our company. We were not only able to utilize the traditional bidding opportunities provided by the program, we were also able to use support services for training and consulting at different stages in our growth. During one particularly difficult time in our growth transition, we were able to use a business consulting opportunity that in my opinion saved us. We were able to not only survive that difficult time, but we were also able to start an even greater growth path. In 2012, after acquiring another company and growing organically, we re-branded our company to BX Civil & Construction. Today, we are a much larger company and are grateful for the humble beginning that the South Dakota DBE program provided us.
